Hey Purpose Finders, it’s your girl Charisa, and I am so excited to bring you today’s episode. You know that around here, we’re not just talking about purpose like it’s a buzzword, but we are actually digging into the real stories, real struggles, and real breakthroughs that remind us why we’re here. And trust me, today’s conversation is one you’re going to want to lean into.
I got to sit down with someone who I met in the old days of university. He is honestly a walking, breathing example of what it looks like when purpose collides with everyday life. His name is Marquay Baul — and y’all, he’s not just talking about purpose, he is living it out in every sphere he touches. From his early days grinding it out in banking, to building his own private wealth management firm serving athletes and entertainers, to hearing God whisper to him that his assignment was to “influence the influencers,” this man’s story will stretch you, inspire you, and probably make you do some deep self-checks too.
What I love about this episode is how down-to-earth it is. Marquay doesn’t just talk theory, he breaks down what purpose really looks like in everyday life. He shares how being out of alignment feels a lot like a car pulling off to the side and everything gets bumpier and harder than it should. He also gets real about battling imposter syndrome, even while working with celebrities, athletes, and leaders, and how redefining manhood, fatherhood, and legacy helped him quiet the fear and step boldly into his calling. And when alignment finally clicks? Whew, things don’t suddenly get perfect, but they do get a whole lot clearer, smoother, and more fulfilling.

Life is full of distractions like divorce, social media, disappointments, changing seasons of life. And sometimes the noise feels so loud that it drowns out your sense of purpose. So the question is: how do you stay focused on what God really called you to do?
My guest today, Pastor Richelle A. Lorde, knows this journey well. She’s a pastor, author, entrepreneur, and community-builder and a mother of four who has walked through grief, divorce, leadership challenges, and still continues to serve with strength and grace. She’s also the heart behind The Nehemiah Project, a powerful initiative providing housing and mentorship for young people aging out of foster care.
In our conversation, Pas. Richelle shares how forgiveness can unlock your future, why staying connected to the right people is non-negotiable, and how she’s learned to balance personal pain with a public calling. She gets real about what it means to reassess your circle, let go when you need to, and keep saying “yes” to God even when the road is messy.
Her story is such a reminder that purpose isn’t about being perfect; it’s about staying surrendered, connected, and willing to grow. If you’ve ever felt pulled in too many directions or tempted to give up, this episode will encourage you to take a breath, refocus, and remember what truly matters.

This week on The Purpose Finder Podcast, I sat down with Ernest Fenton—an attorney, entrepreneur, and author whose story really stayed with me.Ernest calls his late father his “secret weapon,” and after hearing their story, you’ll understand why. Within the same six months, Ernest lost both his father and his business. Yet it was the lessons his dad left him that gave him the courage to keep going. One moment in particular really struck me: when his father, who worked as a tree cutter, was told he might lose his contract with the city, he simply said, “Well, I’ll do something else.” That kind of quiet confidence shaped the way Ernest sees the world—and it’s a perspective we can all learn from.He also shares practical wisdom on protecting what matters most—our assets, our legacy, and our peace of mind. He makes it simple, relatable, and powerful, reminding us that building wealth isn’t just about money—it’s about leaving things in order for the people we love. This episode isn’t just about finding your purpose—it’s about holding onto it, protecting it, and trusting that even when life forces you to pivot, you’re never stuck. Ernest’s story reminded me that no matter what happens, there’s always another way forward. And it makes me want to ask you: When life has pushed you to start over, what gave you the courage to try again?

Family, this conversation had me smiling, tearing up, and nodding my head the whole way through. I had the joy of sitting down with Shani McKoy—a Jersey girl who thought she was headed for Hollywood, but God had bigger plans. Instead of scripts on a stage, He handed her the script of her life: to lead women into truth, resilience, and purpose.
Shani opened up about the raw grief of losing her father just three months into ministry, and how that season forced her to cling to God in a deeper way. She shared how resilience is forged in adversity, what it means to live a life of daily obedience, and why success isn’t measured by applause or titles—but by faithfulness to God.
And then… she shared her love story. Y’all, it’s the kind of story that makes you laugh, shake your head, and say, “Only God could write this.” From knowing her husband since she was 13, to missing every single sign, to finally realizing God had aligned them for something far greater than themselves—her testimony is a beautiful reminder that when you know your purpose, you can recognize who’s truly aligned with it.
This episode will encourage you if you’ve ever questioned your calling, struggled with loss, or wondered if God really has a plan for your love life. Spoiler: He does.

About the Guest
Shani McKoy is the founder of Shanispeaksup, an online women’s ministry that she launched during the pandemic. What started as a simple act of obedience has grown into a platform dedicated to teaching women God’s Word and helping them live a life that truly honors Him.
Her heart is especially for single women, encouraging them to navigate singleness with purpose, rather than pressure. She emphasizes abstinence, self-worth, and spiritual growth, helping women understand that finding their purpose first is key before seeking a relationship. Shani believes that when she aligns with God’s plan rather than societal expectations, she positions herself for the life He truly desires for her.
Through Shanispeaksup, Shani has been blessed to impact countless women, encouraging them in faithful living, obedience, and spiritual empowerment. It hasn’t always been easy, but she’s learned that true success isn’t about striving—it’s about surrendering to God’s will and trusting Him in every season.
Now, Shani is focusing on Dreamscripted Podcast, a space where faith and purpose collide. This podcast is about helping people script the life God has written for them, rather than the one they’ve been pressured to create for themselves. Dreamscripted is about saying yes to God’s vision, even when it looks different from what she imagined. Through deep conversations and real-life testimonies, Shani wants to help others see that God’s script is always better than our own.

Let’s be honest—nobody volunteers for the difficult seasons: abrupt family losses, feeling the weight of legacy, rebuilding after heartbreak, or being pushed into roles before we feel ready. On this episode of the Purpose Finder podcast, I sit down with Melody Winston—executive director, entrepreneur, daughter of pioneering leaders, and a woman for whom faith and resiliency are daily practices, not just hashtags.
Melody invites us into her real story, not just her résumé: moving cross-country in the shadow of her family’s achievements, grieving the sudden loss of her grandfather and uncle in a plane crash, and weathering a challenging divorce while raising four children. Melody doesn’t gloss over the hard parts—she shares what it meant to lean on faith when her mental strength faltered, the quiet courage of starting over, and the determination to serve her community even when she felt least qualified.
What stands out most in our conversation isn’t just her perseverance, but the way she says ‘yes’ to stretching—to learning new things (like overseeing property management and launching a grocery store in a food desert) far outside her comfort zone. Melody’s lessons are clear: excellence isn’t about perfection, but consistency and believing in possibilities, even when you don't have all the answers yet. She brings home the message that legacy isn’t a burden—it's an invitation to serve, to uplift, and to lead by example, especially for those coming after us.

In October 2021, Living Word Christian Center (founded by her father, Dr. Bill Winston) seized the opportunity to purchase a 71,000-square-foot grocery store in Forest Park, Illinois, after its former owner exited. The goal: to serve the community with access to fresh, high-quality food.
Since its launch in June 2022, Living Fresh has become the largest Black-owned supermarket in the U.S., offering fresh produce, seafood, meat, and global products. Under Melody’s leadership, it has also become a launchpad for diverse vendors and significantly improved access to nutritious food in the area.
Melody was born on a military base in North Carolina, daughter of Dr. Bill Winston and Carolyn Williams, and a descendant of Clarabelle Williams, who founded the first Black-owned medical clinic in the U.S.
She began her career in real estate, later owning Golden Eagle Construction and managing commercial assets. Today, she is Executive Director of Corporate Property Assets and Director of Real Estate & Construction for Living Word Christian Center and its affiliated properties in Illinois and Alabama.
In 2012, she co-founded Legacy Flight Academy, introducing youth from underrepresented communities to aviation. She also formerly served as VP of Golden Eagle Aviation, a firm specializing in jet charters and maintenance.

Living with purpose isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about learning to ask the right questions, follow the right voices, and trust the deeper work happening within.
In this episode of the Purpose Finder Podcast, I sit down with bestselling author, coach, emotional intelligence strategist and pastor Dr. Dharius Daniels for a transformative and transparent conversation about identity, influence, and the journey toward a life of meaning and impact.
We dive into the questions that shape us: Why am I here? How do I rise above where I came from? Can I really build a future that’s bigger than my past? Dr. Daniels opens up about his childhood in a small Mississippi town, and how his father helped him shift from focusing on physical limitations to cultivating spiritual vision—seeing with “the eyes of the heart.”
Together, we explore the subtle ways we conform, the cost of settling for safety or “normal,” and how our personal agitation—the specific burdens that won’t let us go—can actually point us to the work we were made for. We further explore the connection between emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence and direct link to you calling.
Dr. Daniels also shares candidly about navigating burnout, rebuilding from the inside out, and the emotional and spiritual maturity required not just to find your purpose, but to sustain it. We talk about the power of proximity, the role of healing, and why chasing your uniqueness is an act of faith.
If you've ever felt the tension between who you are and who you're becoming, this conversation will speak to your soul—and remind you that purpose is less about striving and more about surrendering to the assignment only you can fulfill.

Some moments plant a seed so deep, they end up shaping not just a life—but a legacy.
In this episode of the Purpose Finder Podcast, I sit down with the inspiring Kelly Fair—author, speaker, and founder of Polished Pebbles Girls Mentoring Program. Over the past 15 years, Kelly’s vision has empowered more than 10,000 girls across Chicago, and her reach now extends globally to places like South Africa, Kenya, Chad, and Jamaica.
Her story began with one pivotal experience: a “Take Your Daughter to Work Day” that cracked open a new world. That day, made possible by her father’s intention, became the spark that lit her lifelong mission—helping girls see themselves as leaders and equipping them to thrive.
In our conversation, Kelly invites us into the behind-the-scenes of purpose. She talks about navigating seasons of self-doubt, being the “new kid,” and learning to lead before she felt fully ready. We explore how she found confidence not through credentials, but through community, mentorship, and a willingness to serve. And we challenge the lie that you need money, status, or degrees to make a difference—sometimes, all it takes is your yes.
This episode is full of heart. It’s about resilience, the quiet strength of women who show up, and the power of legacy—built not in headlines, but in relationships. Kelly reminds us that failure is part of the process, and that purpose is less about perfection and more about presence.
You don’t have to have it all together to make an impact. You just have to care deeply—and act intentionally. Let this conversation remind you: your influence begins right where you are.

What does it really take to live out your purpose? Is simply knowing your “why” enough—or is it about those daily choices and subtle mindset shifts that shape your entire journey?
In this episode, I’m sitting down with someone incredibly special to me—one of my personal coaches, John Israel, also known as “Mr. Thank You.” John isn’t just a successful business owner and keynote speaker; he’s on a mission to elevate the level of gratitude on the planet. But his path to purpose wasn’t always clear-cut.
We dive into his unconventional journey—from feeling overwhelmed in a high-pressure sales job to launching a gifting agency, and ultimately discovering his deeper calling through the power of gratitude. John opens up about pivotal moments in his life, like how his father’s illness pushed him to grow up fast and sparked his entrepreneurial drive, and how committing to writing five handwritten thank you cards a day for an entire year completely transformed his life.
We talk about what it really means to find the “gift” in life’s most difficult moments, how gratitude became his superpower, and how he’s built multiple income streams while staying aligned with his values.
This conversation also gets into the importance of having the right mentors and coaches, the realities of making major life pivots (yes, including the financial ups and downs!), and the moments that shaped both of our growth journeys. You'll even hear the story of how John started writing thank you notes to airline pilots—and the surprising ripple effect of that simple gesture.
